The holiday apartment

The apartment has large south-facing windows, with an undisturbed view over a quiet courtyard and over the neighbourhood's roof and tree -tops. The apartment is 50 m² in size, with a small kitchen, bathroom, corridor and a large 35 m² room.

There is enough space for 1-3 guests. It has a big bed (160 x 200 cm) and, on request, it is possible to have a further single bed. TV, radio and wireless DSL internet are available (no telephone). The apartment has regular central heating. It lies on the 3rd floor (no lift).

The kitchen is equipped with everything you need for cooking with.

The bathroom has a bathtub and a shower, as well as a toilet.

It is allowed to smoke here in the apartment.

There are other friends in the house also renting out rooms and apartments, making it possible to accommodate a small group or a few couples. Altogether, we speak German, English, Italian, Russian, and Arabic.

3 bicycles (5 Euro each per day) are also available to rent.

The accomodation does not suit to families with small children.

Area - close to Mauerpark (berlin-wall-park)

The apartment lies close to the Mauerparks, which were originally the border lines of the Berlin wall in Berlin Prenzlauer Berg. Every summer evening, they are transformed into gardens for barbecue parties. Once there was even a small camp fire, around which one could comfortably relax while sipping a drink! There is a flea market there on Sundays, which is definitely worth a visit. In the front part of Gleim Street, one can find cafés and bars, one after the other.

A tip to go out: The "Ein-euro-Café"
The nameless small pub at the corner of Veteranenstraße/Fehrbelliner Straße actually is less a cafeteria than a protest. In 2003 at the end of June, the wine merchant Philippe Gross opened it mainly for one single reason: because the high prices of the pubs in the Prenzlauer Berg district made him more and more angry. That is why he offers in his cafeteria all beverages for only one euro. Of course: with such modest sales you cannot afford an expensive furniture and terrace equipment, so he accepts those things as present from his guests (Gross accepts all things that are still nice: from the plush-couch to strange decoration. Opposite to the cafeteria you find the wine shop of Gross, the "Weinerei", where he offers his wines with very decent prices, considering the young clientele.

Concerning history of the Schönhauser Allee:
Magistratsschirm, Konopke, Café Nord, Wäsche-Hoffmann, Uhren-Weist, Colosseum - for decades, the Schönhauser Allee was the main cult address of East Berlin. The street was a movie star, a shopping centre and an amusement place. And always there was something to be seen. The Soviet political leader Breschnew bumped on the pavement in the same way as one hundred years before the German emperor did on his way to the castle of Niederschönhausen.

In the middle of the 19th century, the expansion of Berlin to the northeast took place beginning at the Schönhauser Tor. The area of the southern Schönhauser Allee is the oldest district of Prenzlauer Berg. In this time, the breweries were the pioneers, who installed their beer cellars in the foothills of the Barnim mountains. The first to do this was the brewery Pfefferbrauerei, in 1841, the opposite Königstadtbrauerei followed in 1849 as same as the Schultheiß-Brauerei (today the Kulturbrauerei with cinemas, pubs, galleries and theatre). Shortly after, at weekend thousands of excursionists populated the idyllic beer gardens. In 1924, the cinema Colosseum opened on the terrain of the shut down depot of the former horse tram.
